A simple workout generates electricity savings for this beach resort in the Caribbean

We have seen it at some airports around the world: eager travellers indoor biking to charge their phones and consumption before their anticipated flights. Who would have thought that similar activities can take place outside of the coast of Venezuela in the beautiful Caribbean? Guests at the beach resort on the Caribbean island of Aruba can now contribute to the reduction of their carbon footprint through physical exercise. In their Fitness Centre, the Bucuti & Tara Beach resort provides Eco-Powr bikes that generate electricity during visitors’ workouts, converting energy into kilowatts that lowers the resort’s energy consumption. Guests can follow their energy production through tracking displayed on a leaderboard portraying the top energy producers, both locally and globally.

The resort has also recently introduced similar concepts for its treadmills. This is the newest initiative in the resort’s comprehensive wellness program.
